In times of stress or healthcare crisis especially, people often struggle to make sense of "why me?" At such times it can be a challenge to reconcile what we have been taught in our secular and religious schooling. The answer to "why?" may never be found.
The causes of illness are complex. There are multiple genetic, traumatic, environmental, infectious, mental, emotional and other factors that interrelate with one another in ways that are sometimes difficult or impossible to analyze into discrete cause and effect relationships. Despite this, the active intelligence aspect of the human spirit seeks to make a meaningful experience of illness.
